Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapeutic intervention designed to support children experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
Because children often struggle to express their thoughts and feelings through words, play becomes their natural language. Child play therapy offers a way for children to express emotions, make sense of their experiences, and develop healthy coping skills — all through the safety and creativity of play.
In the playroom, a trained therapist uses toys, games, art, and storytelling to create a safe, welcoming environment. Through this process, children can explore big feelings, communicate what they’re going through, and learn new ways to manage challenges such as anxiety, anger, sadness, or behavioural struggles.
Play therapy is especially helpful for children dealing with trauma, loss, separation anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, or changes in their environment.
The Play Room
The Play Room is a safe and trusting space where children can express themselves freely and authentically. Also known as the special room, it’s a therapeutic environment where children’s feelings can be safely revealed, held, and explored.
Once a strong sense of connection and trust is established between the therapist and the child, the child begins to feel secure enough to bring their emotional difficulties to the surface.
In this protected space, confidentiality and trust are key. The play therapist gently supports the child in making sense of their experiences, building resilience, and discovering healthier ways to cope with challenges in the future.
